In preparation for my big gay weekend of covering same-sex weddings in New York, I got a haircut and my eyebrows groomed. There were two reasons for the beautifying. 1. I am going to a bunch of weddings. It’s nice to show some respect. 2. I know this is a stereotype, but some gs care a lot about what people look like, and it’s always helpful to mimic who you’ll be interviewing. Example: This morning when I was covering the weddings in Manhattan, I asked this very cute boy in a bow tie, slim-cut shorts, and oxfords without socks what he thought of the protestors holding up signs that said that God hated him? He said, “As long as they don’t throw stuff at us and ruin my outfit, it’s fine.”
So it’s a good thing my official glamour shot photographer Julia was on-hand last night to document that, hey, I tried. Sorry it’s dark, but we were at bar. (Also, sidenote, see the drink in front of me? It is the result of something like a bartender’s choice. You tell them what liquor you feel like drinking and they are supposed to bring you something exotic that you’ve never heard of before. However, this drink is not that. It is a Tom Collins. So to the good bartender who made it for me, I would like to say, “If I wanted a Tom Collins, I would have ordered one.” Another stereotype is that girls who have to leave bars early to rest up for their big gay weekends are grouchy.)
