Kayleen Grows In Brooklyn

What’s Past Is Prologue

I’ve heard rumors that there are billions of abandoned blogs on the Internet. Kayleen Grows in Brooklyn, I will not abandon you. Herewith, some of my recent activities:

After 9.5 years in New York, I finally got to check this off my to-do list: Go to the opening night of a Broadway play that Sarah Jessica Parker was also at. This is not as hard as it sounds. I’ve heard she makes movies these days – not that I’ve ever seen any of them, but I try to keep up – but around this city, what she’s mostly known for is showing up at the play of the moment’s opening night. Here she is at Normal Heart, which is about the early years of the AIDS epidemic if you care, and the expression on her face is almost the same one she gave me 9.5 years ago when I was in her way at the grocery store. Except then she had her baby strapped to her chest.

I’ve also been watching some television with Justin. During the Royal Wedding he told me he was tearing up. He told me it was history and that he would tell his daughter he watched this someday. I told him not to be ridiculous and the only thing this wedding was doing was hitting girls over the head with the idea that their main aspiration should be marrying well. We probably both need to increase our understanding of how to have a nuanced discussion. He also high-fived me (hard!) when the president announced that Osama bin Laden was dead and clapped the way he does during baseball games when the Red Sox do something reasonable.

And finally this morning, this dude said to me on the street, “Shorty, you are wearing that dress.” I responded, “Sir, I put it on. I know that I am wearing it.” This is totally true and was brought about mostly because I am tired of being called “Shorty” (Do you spell this with an “y” or “ie”? I am not sure). I much prefer “Boo.”
